The first step is to design the stairs according to the specifications and requirements of the homeowner. This includes determining the concrete stair’s dimensions, number of steps, rise and run of each step, and the overall layout of the staircase. In addition, the design must comply with local building codes and regulations.

Forms constructed of wood or metal are used to shape the stairs according to the dimensions of the design. Forms are securely anchored and braced to prevent movement during the pouring and curing process. Once the concrete cures, the forms are removed.

Once the formwork and reinforcement are in place, concrete is mixed according to the required strength and consistency. Concrete is poured into the formwork, starting from the bottom step, and working upward. Care is taken to ensure that the concrete is evenly distributed and properly compacted to eliminate air pockets and achieve a smooth surface.

Curing is perhaps the most critical step in building concrete stairs. Curing involves maintaining optimal moisture and temperature to allow the concrete to harden and achieve its full strength. To ensure proper curing, the concrete stairs are covered with plastic sheeting, or a curing compound is applied, or water is added to the surface to prevent rapid moisture loss. We apply one or several of these curing methods depending on weather conditions and the complexity of the installation.

After formwork is removed, any imperfections or blemishes in the concrete surface are repaired. The stairs are sealed or coated to enhance durability, protect against moisture penetration, and improve resistance to wear and tear.
